The LIFE+ Programme
LIFE+ is the EU's financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the EU. The general objective of LIFE+ is to contribute to the implementation, updating and development of EU environmental policy and legislation, including the integration of environment into other policies, thereby contributing to the promotion of sustainable development. Through LIFE+ measures and projects with a European added value for Member States are financed.
This specific LIFE project is implemented under the component LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity, which aims to contribute, through co-financing best practice or demonstration projects, to the implementation of EU policy and legislation on nature and biodiversity particularly in relation to Birds Directive 79/409/EEC and Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and to support further development and implementation of the Natura 2000 network.
Cofinancing: Green Fund
The "Green Fund" is a public entity, which was founded in 2010 by Law 3889/2010 and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Environment, Energy and Climate Change.
The aim of the Green Fund is to establish an integrated funding system for environmental interventions in order to enhance development through environmental protection and to offer an efficient and transparent management of resources for the upgrading and restoration of the environment and tackle climate change. Indicative axes for the funding actions of the Green Fund are biodiversity, forests, protection of water - soil, tackling serious environmental problems, prevention, protection and regulation of urban planning, urban revitalization, reinforcement of renewable energy, energy saving etc.
Financial resources of the Green Fund are a) Green Resources (resources of ETERPS, Special Forestry Agency, Environmental Resources Fund Balance, transfers energy distributors, distribution system operators and retail energy sales companies, and other fees specific fines), b) funding through programs and initiatives of the European Union and international organizations, c) gains, interests or other income resulting from the participation of the Green Fund to other private entities, d) grants and donations from persons, private or public entities, e) income through management, operation and use of its property, f) grants from the State Budget and funding from the public investment program and other revenues of just cause.
In this context, the Green Fund co-finances this specific program.
